Sunspots can be best observed in white light with a proper solar filter The following taken on a sigma 600mm x1.4 converter

Like all types of Solar photography trying to focus can be a problem. For these I usually focus on a building in the far distance then flick to manual.

Using live view only (Never look through the viewfinder otherwise you will go blind). You can take a few photos with a dark piece of cloth over your head and then check the focus

I love seeing sunspots but just at the present time we see very few as we are in a solar minimum

I am  looking to combine white light (DSLR) and Ha with the Solar scout 6o when ever that comes through, good job I have a lot of patience

Over the coming months and years we will see the sun becoming more active and with it comes more sunspots
