Its been a while

Its been a while since the last post. Earlier this year i was considering buying a Lunt 60mm solar scope but at the time there was no stock in the Uk due to this virus.

It did give me time to consider the whole set up and costs and i came to conclusion that although it was a great set up i couldn't justify the £7000 costs for the scope and all the other items. Over 10 years it would come out at £13.50(ish) per week and not all those weeks would you be able to look at the sun, especially in Shetland.

I was back to white light Photography using a Nikon D750 and a 600mm+ 1.4 converter to take some sunspots the other week. This renewed my interested and i started to look round at cheaper options. After a week of research I considered the PST, solar scout and Solar max.

The sunspot on the left was 4 times larger than the earth

There are not too many reviews and photos taken by those scopes, i searched through Stargazers Lounge and Solar chat as well as the net and found that the Solar Scout had the most positive reviews and it was a lot cheaper option.

Over 10 years it would work out about £3.36 per week far more manageable especially with the discount that was being offered at the moment. Having sold a few photography items i could cover the cost with a bit to spare.

At least the software is free, Firecapture, Autostakker 3 and iMPGG but they would be a big learning curve as would Photoshop which i have not used even though it comes with the Adobe package

My interest in the sun starts at the Aurora, if you want to see more join Shetland Aurora Hunter on facebook, just send a request to join
