Camera v view of Sun from Shetland

Finally decided on the full kit and contacted Rothervalley Optics, but i have same problem as before, all out of stock and it will be tight to get it before Christmas.

Anyway they are working on it, RV optics certainly are very helpful answering lots of questions and also have the best price for what i want

Using Astronomy Tools on the net you can either see what views you will get depending on lens or in this case what the camera can capture, two ZWOASi 174 and 178.

While it will be great to view the sun through the scope it will be mainly used for photography, which will be far more challenging.

I have decided on the ZWO ASi178, lots of good reviews and had some advice from people on Stargazers lounge, its also £140 cheaper.

Because you will get Newtons rings (Like looking inside a tree trunk) you need a tilt adapter to move the camera slightly off centre this will stop the rings

Then you need to get a sharp image and this is done through Sharpcap (Sharp Capture) free software, after capturing 100's of images then its moved into Autostakker 3, then sharpen in iMMP and finally into Photoshop.

That's a big learning curve, not one but four lots of software

Some interesting stats for the Asi174mm Mono camera, working on a 400 frame capture in 8-bit it takes 6.67 seconds while in 12 -bit mode it is 12.76 seconds. The only problem is that the ASI174 is about £100 dearer than the 178mm.

I gather the 178mm also shows a grid pattern which is difficult to remove, not all cameras show this but it is a risk

Dont forget to check out Shetland Aurora Hunter on facebook, lots of info and photos
